AI-Assisted Coding Study

Overview

We are studying how developers use AI tools when writing and reviewing code.

What you’ll do

The study involves three C programming tasks followed by a brief survey. Participants may be assigned to a condition that either permits or prohibits AI coding assistants. The rules for the assigned condition will be shown before the study begins, and participants must follow those instructions. Some participants will be contacted for a follow-up interview after they complete the study.

Time commitment

  • Programming tasks: 60 minutes
  • Follow-up survey: 20 minutes
  • Follow-up interview: 30 minutes

Compensation

  • Study and final survey: $10 - $35
  • Follow-up interview: $20

Eligibility

  • Are at least 18 years old
  • Have minimal to no C development experience
  • Are comfortable completing the study in English
